Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen Vol 1 #127 – Jimmy’s Slumlord Exposé!
Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen #127 (March 1970), by Leo Dorfman with Pete Costanza’s art, is a socially charged Bronze Age tale. Jimmy Olsen goes undercover to expose a slumlord, Mr. Squeeze, whose Bond Company endangers tenants with deplorable living conditions and demands three months’ rent upfront. Befriending tenant Terry Dean, Jimmy witnesses crumbling apartments and meets struggling residents. His Daily Planet exposé is spiked when sponsors threaten Perry White, so Jimmy, on vacation, rents a unit for $240, facing instant breakdowns—shattered windows, collapsing cupboards, and a faulty gas range. Discovered, Jimmy is abducted, blindfolded, beaten, and shaved bald by Squeeze’s henchmen for humiliation. Learning of Squeeze’s birthday bash, Jimmy rallies tenants to crash the party, shaming him with roaches from the tenement. Superman apprehends Squeeze for kidnapping, and the building, renovated with Superman’s help, is renamed Olsen Gardens in Jimmy’s honor.
