Superboy Vol 1 #131 – Superboy’s Impish and Canine Chaos!
Superboy Vol 1 #131 (July 1966), by Otto Binder and Jerry Siegel with George Papp’s art, is a vibrant Silver Age issue with three stories. In “Lex Luthor, Imp,” Mr. Mxyzptlk plagues Superboy, but Lex Luthor steals the imp’s powers using a machine, becoming a magical menace. Superboy tricks Mxyzptlk into saying his name backward, banishing him, but Luthor retains powers. Superboy realizes Luthor must recite his name backward in machine code, neutralizing him. In “The Fists and the Fury!,” Superboy is attacked by disembodied fists created by Red Kryptonite and drawn by a cape magnet. Heat sources disrupt the attacks, and the threat ends when the Kryptonite wears off. In “The Dog from S.C.P.A.!,” Krypto, patrolling while Superboy is on a Legion mission, witnesses Mammoth Mutt’s death by a Canine Caper Gang missile. Krypto joins the Space Canine Patrol Agents (SCPA), like Tusky Husky and Tail Terrier, defeats Top Dog’s gang, and earns SCPA membership.
