Superboy Vol 1 #118 – Superboy’s Identity Crisis and More!
Superboy Vol 1 #118 (January 1965), by Otto Binder and Jerry Siegel with George Papp’s art, is a vibrant Silver Age issue with three stories. In “The Boy Who Unmasked Superboy!,” Varn, son of Vol-Don from Kandor’s Look-Alike Squad, time-travels to test a Kryptonian Mento-Eraser. Disguised as an obnoxious youth, Varn uncovers Clark Kent’s secret identity, torments the Kents for a week, then reveals his mission to Superboy, erasing their memories with the device. In “The Greatest Gladiator in Rome!,” Superboy takes “Iron Nerves” Ned, a timid high-diver, to ancient Rome’s Colosseum to restore his courage through gladiatorial battles against Brutor, Gasparo, and Marcellus. In “The War Between Superboy and Krypto!,” the Superboy Revenge Squad, led by Nar, Olmeg, and Rava, uses Red Kryptonite to incite a deadly fight between Superboy and Krypto on a tropical island, but their loyalty thwarts the plan.
