Superboy Vol 1 #98 – Superboy’s Smallville Showdowns!
Superboy Vol 1 #98 (July 1962), by Jerry Siegel and Robert Bernstein with George Papp’s art, is a dynamic Silver Age issue featuring two tales. In “The Super-Student of Swankhurst Academy,” conman “Silk” Pomeroy runs Swankhurst Academy to scam wealthy students’ parents for robbery intel. Superboy enrolls, uncovers the scheme with his powers, and brings Pomeroy and his accomplice to justice. In “The Boy with Ultra-Powers!,” Ultra-Boy, a super-powered alien from the 30th Century, arrives in Smallville with Marla Latham to learn Superboy’s secret identity for Legion of Super-Heroes membership. Both heroes discover each other’s costumes via x-ray vision. When Pete Ross is trapped in a bank vault, Ultra-Boy’s unique vision saves him, revealing his mission’s success. He returns to the future, bidding Superboy farewell.
